Quantum Base Explores What Really Makes Smartphone Authentication Work

With some 7 billion smartphones in use worldwide and scannable 2D codes set to become almost ubiquitous on consumer products, the potential to turn the smartphone into a mass-market authentication device has never been greater.

But being able to scan a product is not the same as being able to authenticate it.

That distinction will be at the heart of a webinar being hosted by Quantum Base on 15 September, entitled 'Authentication in Every Pocket: A Practical Guide to Smartphone Counterfeit Detection'.

The webinar comes as two major developments are accelerating the use of machine-readable codes on products. GS1's Sunrise 2027 initiative is driving the transition from traditional linear barcodes to 2D codes at retail point of sale, while the European Union's Digital Product Passport will require products within its scope to carry a data carrier providing access to product and supply chain information.
