Anima™ Colour Makes Banknote Debut in Ukraine
Ukraine is set to become the first country in the world to issue a banknote featuring Anima™ Colour, marking the commercial debut of the latest addition to Oberthur Fiduciaire’s expanding Anima™ micro-optics portfolio.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has announced that the 2,000-hryvnia – a new, high denomination banknote - will enter circulation on 4 September 2026, becoming the first circulating banknote to incorporate the polychromatic, animated windowed security thread.
Andriy Pyshnyy, Governor of the NBU, said: ‘this is the first banknote in the world to make use of the unique Anima™ Colour windowed security thread, which is polychromatic and animated. The thread was developed specifically for the NBU in blue and yellow and, when the banknote is tilted, produces both a movement effect and a transformation of the image, with the Trident changing into the hryvnia sign’.
