Nepal Commits Rs 220 Million to Security Printing

Nepal is strengthening its domestic security printing capabilities, with the government allocating NPR 220 million to expand the Security Printing Centre’s capacity in the 2026/27 fiscal year.

Speaking in the National Assembly on 6 July, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Bikram Timilsina said the investment will help develop the Centre into a self-reliant, commercially operated institution while reducing Nepal’s dependence on overseas suppliers for secure government documents.

The Centre has produced 2.4 million smart driving licences and 3.5 million postage stamps during the current fiscal year.

From 2026/27, it plans to add citizenship certificates, national identity cards, and excise tax stamps to its portfolio, expanding its role in producing secure government documents.
