Canada’s New Vertical $20 Bank Note with Advanced Optics

The Bank of Canada has unveiled its new vertical $20 polymer banknote at a special ceremony attended by the Governor General of Canada, the Secretary of State for Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions, and the Bank’s Governor, Tiff Macklem.

The note is the first to feature a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, replacing that of Queen Elizabeth II, and marks the first time in more than 70 years that a new monarch has appeared on the $20. The denomination is also the most frequently used of all Canada’s banknotes.

The key security feature is an 18mm-wide MOTION SURFACE® stripe from Crane. The effects of the purple stripe include a 3D bubble that magnifies a series of 20s, a maple leaf that pulses, bands that spin inside a poppy, and 20s in the background that morph into maple leaves.
