CNB Marks Centenary with Holographic Foil and QR Code Banknote

The Czech National Bank (CNB) has issued a special commemorative version of its CZK 5,000 banknote to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia's commencement of operations. Released on 22 September 2026, the anniversary banknote is based on the standard 5,000 koruna note already in circulation from 2023 which remains legal tender throughout the Czech Republic.

Although the dimensions, design and security features of the banknote are unchanged, the commemorative edition is distinguished by a unique holographic foil print applied using nano-effect hot-stamping technology.

The silver metallic foil incorporates colour-shifting effects that change with the viewing angle and incident light. At the centre of the design is a special anniversary logo created for the centenary celebrations. The foil also incorporates portraits of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first President of Czechoslovakia, along with a QR code directing users to dedicated anniversary information on the CNB website.
